Verran Eskdale Restoration Group

VERG is an established group of locals keen to look after their natural environment around the Eskdale stream network in Birkenhead.

The group has continued and expanded the work of the Mid-Eskdale Stream Enhancement Project in the wetland at Ridgewood Reserve, and each month runs a working bee involving locals and volunteers to manage weeds and plant new native trees in the Verran Road Gully Reserve and Park Hill Road areas.

With funding from Auckland Council, our Restoration Manager is advising and co-ordinating VERG volunteers to eradicate invasive weeds and, where necessary, replace them with natives. Further work will involve animal pest control and water-quality monitoring.

Weeding bees generally take place every first Sunday of the month (1-3pm) – updates on times and places will be posted here.

To register an interest in joining this project please phone 482 1172 or email us and we will add you to the VERG contact list.
